The 14-year-old Repton School pupil said: “I was pleased with my pace. I had thought we would be a little bit slower than that, but we were actually really fast and the kart was spot-on.”

Jordon in pole position for kart title

A 14-year-old South Derbyshire student is fast building a reputation as a racing driver.

Repton School pupil Jordan King is one of this year’s favourites in the Minimax Super One (S1) National Kart Championship, the series the vast majority of the top British drivers have come through.

This is Jordan’s third year as a driver, after regular visits to an indoor karting track got his interest.

He currently drives a Tony Kart, a 125cc vehicle that can achieve speeds of around 80mph.

Pride in his achievements led to him bringing two karts into school to give fellow students an insight into his sport. His classmates had a chance to have a look at the vehicle, see Jordan drive it and lean a little more about his involvement.

Robert Holroyd, Jordan’s head teacher, said: “We are thrilled at the excellent progress Jordan is making and are pleased to support his involvement in the sport.”

Jordon’s on to be kart king

Repton School pupil Jordan King had given his classmates an insight into his greatest passion by bringing one of his karts into class.

Jordan’s promising future

Young racer Jordan King has signed off his maiden Mini Max karting campaign in fine style with a string of front-running performances, writes Russell Atkins.

The 13-year-old Harbury lad, still in only his second full season of competition, was running second in the final of the recent annual Kartmasters metting at PF International in Lincolnshire before sliding out of contention.

A steering failure cost him when well placed in his next event, the BRDC Stars of Tomorrow at Three Sisters, Wigan. This series set Lewis Hamilton on the track to success. Jordan was sixth in Saturday’s final but failed to finish in the rain on Sunday.

“It was quite frustrating, but I was happy to have proved I was quick enough to fight at the front again,” he said.

“I’ve got a bit more confidence in my driving now, though, which will help me next year. I remember when I started to get a bit quicker and nearer to the front the other drivers didn’t really know who I was, so they bullied me around a bit.

“I had to fight for everything and really make a name for myself. Now I think I’ve earned a bit more respect.”
